Ahuriri's Art and Wall Displays

In Ahuriri, we love to display the children's work so you can see what we have been up to!  This week we have displays celebrating the Chinese New Year, from our maths work on length, our literacy and values work on the Rainbow Fish and our free art project .

Our Free Art this week was to turn a circle into your own master piece!

Term 1 Week 3 - A Jam packed week

Wow, another week filled with an absolute bundle of fun. We had our first kapa haka lesson, PE, El Grego show and our first week of buddies!

Ahuriri children are settling in so well and are exploring new elements of the curriculum each week. This past week we have had kapa haka, P.E., the El Grego magician show and our first week of buddies.

In Kapa haka the children learn waiata, karakia and te reo. The children love learning a new language, new songs and even a bit of sign language. Kapa haka reinforces a sense of belonging, strengthening whakawhanaunatanga, which plays a huge role toward positive feelings experienced.

In P.E. we have been focusing on basic ball skills and ball control. The children played a range of buddied up games where they further developed their hand eye coordination.

Our visit from El Grego had the children in stitches of laughter. They enjoyed learning new tricks and also learning more about how to be a great audience member.

This week, two children from T1 and T2 have received a values certificate celebrating their demonstration of the value, whanaunatanga. This focuses in on celebrating children growing connections with their peers and creating a sense of belonging. Congratulations to Vinny and Tobin from T1 and Nevé and Liam from T2.

Friday Fun Day

Friday Fun Day!

We have fun learning every day of the week but on Fridays we ramp up the fun even further!  There are many activities for the children to choose.  We have a large construction kit which we call the "Blue Stuff".  The children's imagination can run wild with their creations while they learn how to cooperate, communicate and engage.

We also offer baking, painting, music and other learning opportunities over the term. Today we celebrated the Valentine's Day, made some celebration pictures and had Gardening Club with Joy to sort out our  garden area! Take a look at the photos to see the children's choices!

Starting from next week we also invite the children to bring in their scooters on a Friday for use during this time. Children must wear a helmet.

Our Smiling Minds!

Final Week of Fun!

We have had the most incredible week of fun and celebrations in Ahuriri. The children have loved getting into the Christmas spirit with song...
